Los Angeles Sidewalk and Transit Amenities Program (LA STAP)

Los Angeles Sidewalk and Transit Amenities Program (LA STAP)

Today’s Bus Stops are Tomorrow’s Mobility Hubs

Our proposal imagines LA’s bus stops as the backbone of smart mobility and community amenities that serve all Angelenos.

Our Vision

SHELTER-SHADE-SAFETY-COMFORT

Our priority is to provide well-designed, new bus shelters and mobility amenities across LA neighborhoods that meet the City’s goals.

REFLECTING LOS ANGELES’ DIVERSE NEIGHBORHOODS

We propose an iconic yet timeless design for new bus stops that highlights the ‘City of Neighborhoods’ and LA’s eclectic and optimistic culture.

A SMART LOS ANGELES THAT BENEFITS EVERYONE

We will partner with LA communities to ensure that STAP street furniture and technology innovations for smart mobility are accessible and beneficial to all.

Your Bus Stop

Each bus stop and every neighborhood has different needs. Our approach will consider several important elements to determine the best combination of amenities for your stop.

Transit Ridership

Indicates how many people get on and off the bus at this stop. This will be used to prioritize additional seating or sheltered space.

Pollution Burden & Community Need

Higher scores indicate areas that have greater pollution burden compared to other locations

Heat Index

Higher scores indicate a greater need for shade and improvements to address extreme heat.

The Design

Our design draws a nod to LA’s vintage while showcasing its vision of a smart-cities future that prioritizes sustainability and equity for all.  Inspired by the timeless California Modernism style that our city is known for, the bus shelter acts as a flexible framework to add local art and character to reflect each neighborhood and community.

THE FULL BUS STOP CATALOG

Our bus stops prioritize shade, shelter, safety, and comfort for all locations. They can grow or shrink in size to suit the needs of the location and community preferences.

Customizable SHADE CANOPIES

The canopy’s main purpose is to provide SHADE, SHELTER AND COMFORT. Its geometry, materials and color can be customized to reflect the priorities and identity of the community.

SHOWCASE LOCAL FLAVOR

The shelters can be customized with information, local art and graphics that identify a community, create awareness, and celebrate local culture.

Artreach

ArtReach is our initiative to showcase local art at the bus shelters that have digital displays. We will partner with local artists, art galleries, museums, cultural institutions, and community arts organizations in each neighborhood to highlight and promote community and local art. The program will be curated and administered by Nic Cha Kim, co-founder of the creative district Gallery Row in Downtown Los Angeles.

Bus Shelter Demonstration

We have created a full-size model of our BASE bus shelter design to showcase our ideas to Angelenos. Come visit the demonstration at one of the six locations/times and share your opinion with us!
